Picked up a Toyota Hilux at Cancun Airport in February and drove the entire Riviera Maya coast down to Tulum, then inland to Chichen Itza and back via Valladolid. The 4WD handled Highway 307 perfectly, and the voucher instructions were clear. Dropped off at the same terminal without issues. Excellent vehicle for exploring the Yucatan Peninsula.
Rented a Nissan Versa in Mexico City for a week-long trip through the central highlands. Drove to Teotihuacan, Puebla, and several smaller towns along Highway 150D. The sedan was fuel-efficient and handled city traffic well. Booking advance paid online, rest settled at pickup with debit card. Authorization letter arranged for Belize crossing worked perfectly at the border.
Got a Chevrolet Aveo from Leon Airport in April to visit Guanajuato and surrounding colonial towns. The 30 km drive to Guanajuato city centre was straightforward, and the compact size made parking in narrow streets easier. Rental company staff at the airport counter explained all documents clearly. Child seat was ready as requested when booking.
Picked up a Jeep Wrangler at Cancun in May for a two-week Yucatan loop. Drove Cancun to Merida via the cuota toll road, then south to Uxmal and Campeche. Great off-road capability for cenote access roads. Only minor issue: car had a small scratch not marked on the initial checklist, but we documented it and had no problems at return.
Rented a Ford Escape in Mexico City during June and drove through Cuernavaca and Taxco before heading east to Puebla. AWD handled mountain roads and summer rain showers without trouble. Voucher included all contact details for the local company, and they answered questions quickly via email throughout the rental period.
Booked a Mazda CX-5 from Leon in July for a family road trip through Guanajuato state and north into Zacatecas. Three child seats fitted comfortably in the back. We paid the booking advance online, then settled the rest with cash at pickup as specified in the voucher. Second driver fee applied as expected.
Used 4Drive Mexico to get a Nissan Kicks in Cancun for a Playa del Carmen base and day trips along Highway 307. The 68 km between Cancun and Playa took about 50 minutes with one toll booth. Fuel stations were easy to find, both Pemex and private brands. Drop-off at Hotel Zone location was convenient.
Rented a Volkswagen Jetta in Mexico City during September and explored the entire route from Teotihuacan north of the city down to Cholula and back through Tlaxcala. The sedan handled both Highway 132D toll sections and slower libre roads comfortably. All paperwork was ready at the rental desk, and the inspection process was quick.
